Life is Beautiful S,R, &A

In the workshop held on March 18th Vanessa Shelton asked YEA! participant youth, “If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be, and how would you change it?”  Here are some of their answers:

A.S. (8th grade, Cedar Rapids)

“I would go back in time and save Malcolm X.  I would need a time machine and a bullet proof vest.  I would tell his bodyguards to make sure he didn’t go to speak that day.  If he was alive I think black people would stand up for ourselves more.”

C.C. (8th grade, Cedar Rapids)

“I would change my school.  I don’t like my school and I am ready to get out over there.  I would change my school to have more black teachers.”

D.H. (8th grade, Cedar Rapids)

“If I could change one thing in the world, it would be my own attitude.  I would try being nicer.”

J.G. (9th grade, Iowa City)

“I would change the way war is so that they end this war and nobody goes to war and stays at home with their loved ones.”

K.S. (8th grade, Cedar Rapids)

“I would change the way people live so people could eat every night.”

K.W. (9th grade, Iowa City)

“I would change my school.  Why?  Because I don’t like the teachers.  I just don’t like them.”

M.M. (8th grade, Cedar Rapids)

“I would change so that white people had to go through slavery times as slaves.  I would make it so that we were slave owners and they were the slaves.  Because to me, white people now have it better than blacks.  I would try to change to make it so there was no racism in the world for my children.”
